Notes to Herald Recount of Dade Count -- Bruce Hansen, University of Wisconsin I copied the data from the Miami Herald webpage http://www.miami.com/herald/special/news/flacount/docs/review.htm using cut-and-paste. I downloaded only the data for the 614 voting precincts, not for the absentee precincts. The Miami Herald webpage contains data on marks for "other races". This is not reported in these files. The data is collected in the seven files with *.txt endings, or the one Excel file "Herald_Recount_of_Dade_County.xls". Each *.txt file corresponds exactly to one worksheet in the Excel file. The files (or worksheets) label "Dimples", "Pinpricks", "1 corner Hanging Chad",...,"Clean Punch", contain the data from the Miami Herald webpage for the corresponding columns. These are the number of "undervote ballots" with this type of mark for each candidate, plus mispunch. (A mispunch is a punch that doesn't correspond to a valid candidate position on the ballot.) The file "herald recount totals.txt" (and the first worksheet labeled "totals") contains the numbers from the "Total" column from the webpage, for each candidate, mispunchs, plus "No Mark". The latter is the number of ballots which contained no marks.
