Note: Codebooks contain frequency data from the private data release. For some variables, these differ from the frequencies in the public release. Variables that differ between the public and private versions include "(not available on public release)" as part of the variable description, or a note indicating the difference between the public and private versions.

Phone: Household Roster

se001he        Total number of persons living in the household.

The table allows for up to eleven household members.  The last two
digits of the variable indicate the table number.  The prefixes are:

  se002        Living arrangement of household member.
  se502        Living arrangement of household member, collapsed.
  seu03        Section of the questionnaire from which information
               for this household member was obtained.
  se004        Relationship of household member to respondent.
  se005        Age of household member.

The household roster contains one table entry for each person who lives 
in the household. The respondent is always the first household member.  If 
the respondent is married, the spouse is the second household member.  

If any of the respondent's children are coded as living at home (question 
126g) or living at college/school/dorm/university, these children are 
included in this newly constructed roster next.  No further  questions 
were asked to determine if children living at college still live
with R part-time.  In the income module, several respondents reported
income for children whom they had indicated were living at college.  This
indicates these children still live at home part-time.  To be consistent,
all children living at college are included in the household roster, with 
a unique code of "14" for se002.  
 
If anyone other than a spouse or children lived with the respondent, 
information about those individuals was reported in questions 
Ha1 through Hg7 of the questionnaire.  These individuals are included
in the household roster next.  Some mothers are coded 996 for question 
466f (code 996 indicates mother lives with respondent), but not listed 
in questions Ha1 - Hg7.  These mothers are included in the household 
roster next and coded "04" for seu03.  Fathers who are coded 996 for 
question 472f, but not listed in questions Ha1 - Hg7 are also included 
in the household roster with a code of "05" for seu03.  Parents who 
are listed in questions Ha1 - Hg7 have a code of "06" for seu03.
