Note: If year last attended school is greater than 1975, questions about
the first job after completing school are not asked. These cases are
coded 9 for JOBED and all the following questions about first job.
There were nine cases with missing data for year job began. Only one
of these respondents reported any education after high school and the
last year attended for that respondent was 1964. So all nine of these
respondents were coded as if this first job had begun prior to 1975.

Note: See Change Notice #21 for information about the 9/00 update.

For 475 people who did not respond in 1975, their current
job is the job held in January, 1975.

Five respondents indicated they were not employed as of 1/75 in response
to bb07. They later reported having a job spell that included the time
period 1/75. We have coded their data exactly as they reported it -
ie. variables INXCURU through OCPXCRU2 in Wave 1 are coded inappropriate
and variables in Wave 2 have a job spell that includes 1/75.

See Change Notice #18 for difference between updated and original
variables.

This 9/99 update includes codes for 46 respondents previously
coded "998" - Inappropriate for this variable.

This variable is the proportion of months from June, 1957 to the month
of interview that R was not known to be out of the civilian labor force.
It was constructed in a complex fashion from R's reports of educational
and military experience, weeks worked in 1974 and, in the case of
ever-married females, work in marriage-birth intervals. See
Appendix E - Memo043 for construction of EXPER and TENURE and COR331a
for the updated versions NEWEXPER and NEWTEN.
