SMARR  Marriage Module

OVERVIEW 

Information about the Sibling Respondent's marriage was collected in the
following manner:
    
    - In 1977 and 1994, respondents were asked for detailed information 
      regarding their marriage. If the respondent was married at the time
      of their last interview, the marriage module begins by asking if 
      the respondent is still in the previous marriage. If the respondent is
      not, or if the respondent was not married at the time of the last
      interview, the respondent was asked a series of questions about each 
      marriage since the last interview.
      
    - If the respondent is currently married, a series of questions about 
      the respondent's current spouse is asked. These questions include
      details regarding the spouses employment, retirement, and health, as 
      well as the relationship between the respondent and the spouse.
      
    - The 2005 interview includes 178 siblings who were not interviewed before,
      that is, they were not interviewed in 1977 or 1994.
