SMORT- Sibling Mortality Closeout Module 06/20/07 OVERVIEW The mortality closeout module is administered when an informant informs us that the sibling we are trying to reach is no longer living. After establishing the relationship of the informant to the sibling we administer a short module to collect data mainly involving updates the sibling's last employment information, and information on the death itself. Mortality closeout module was not in 1990's round of data collection, therefore, the analysis variables created this round are not comparable to any specific module in surveys prior to 2003. BRIEF VARIABLE DESCRIPTIONS cw001if Relationship of Respondent to Deceased Sibling cw002if Sibling's Marital Status at Time of Death cw003if - cw004if Year and State of Sibling's Death cw005if Year of Birth cw006ifc Cause of Death cw007if - cw016if Employment Variables CODING For details on ICD-9 coding of cw006if and cw006ifc, please see cor 867 in Appendix R. Details regarding the creation of the occupation codes are in cor863. The code in cor863 was in SAS, and the Mortality Closeout command file was in Stata; so the code needed to be rewritten for this module, but it yielded the same end results. PROBLEMS No problems. PEOPLE Notes and Other Specified's were checked and coded by Rachel Malec for the following variables: cw001if (adec5a) cw006ifc (amor8, amor8a) cw017if (amor17) Notes and Other Specified's were checked and coded by the UWSC for the following variables: cw007if - cw016if (amor10-amor16) Rachel Malec also wrote this COR and wrote code for analysis variables.
