If you received second wave data before May 31, 1996, please read this report.
Releases of 1992/93 data prior to May 1996 contained a serious error in the three variables for religious preference.
7- 8 RL001RE Current religious preference. (updated 5/96) (448s, 448p, 448t) 16-17 RL006SPC Spouse's religious preference. (updated 5/96) (34m, 452m, 452q, 454n, 454p) 19-20 RL008SPD Spouse's religious preference at time of marriage. (updated 5/96) (RL007SPC, 34m, s454r, 455, s455p)
Two codes were eliminated and the cases recoded:
76 - No religious preference, athiest, agnostic.
95 - Other religions
The following codes were added:
00 - No religion, none
93 - Agnostic
94 - Athiest
All of the cases originally coded "76" and "95" were assigned the more specific codes. If the respondent answered both Agnostic and Athiest, they were coded "93" - Agnostic.
The Master List of Religion Codes - COR483.WP5 (revised 5/96) appears in Appendix I of this new release.

Releases of 1992/93 data prior to May 1996 did not distinguish between LOW and INAPPROPRIATE. They were all coded "00". This release codes 00 = LOW and 98 = INAPPROPRIATE, NON-SAMPLE.
The code "98" has been added for inappropriate throughout.

Releases of 1992/93 data prior to May 1996 for the two variables for frequency of contact with parents which were coded "366" on earlier releases were either incorrect or actually a higher number. The variable for parents-in-law currently living together (RE091PIC) was blank on previous releases.
For variables RE058MAC and RE070FAD, cases which were calculated to have contact more than 365 times per year were checked in detail. Those values that were legitimately greater than 365 were coded that higher value. Extreme outliers for which no correct code could be determined were coded 999 (REFUSED, NOT ASCERTAINED).
