This page contains the detailed information on the coding schemes used
for the content analysis. All of the documents can be viewed with Adobe
Acrobat Reader. If you do not already have this software, you can download
a free version through the link at the bottom of this page. If you would
rather have a text version of the documents, you can download those through
the "text" links on the left. These links are for files in "rich
text format" (.rtf).
The Coders' Introduction has the basic information on the project and
coding scheme and was designed for use during the training of coders.
The Coding Manual contains the detailed information on the coding scheme
and the procedure for coding the various parts of the articles.
The Coding Guidelines were designed for people that had already been
coding. It has the information on distinguishing between difficult codes
as well has rules for the hierarchical coding.
Finally, the Quick Guide is a condensed version of the longer manual
for reference during coding.
