I am a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology at Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine.
In June 2010, I completed my PhD in the Department of Sociology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. My dissertation, Mobilizing Military Motherhood: Negotiating Support, Activism and Politics in the U.S. War on Terrorism, used theories of gender, discourse, and political mobilization to understand the intersections of the public and the private in the experiences of mothers of members of the U.S. Armed Forces.
I'm originally from the coast of Maine, and in my free time I enjoy reading classics and mysteries, running, watching movies, canoeing, and hiking. Among my favorite things are photography, guinness, and lobster.
The photographs on this website are my own, and the war posters are from my growing collection of gender and war images.
