I am a PhD Candidate in the Department of Sociology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. My research interests include sociology of gender, sociology of culture, qualitative methods, social theory (classical, contemporary and feminist), war and the military, discourse analysis, news media, internet technology, and communications.

My dissertation is a study of how the mothers of current U.S. soldiers use online support groups to mobilize around gendered ideas about politics, support, and motherhood.

I'm originally from the coast of Maine, and in my free time I enjoy reading classics and mysteries, watching movies, photography, canoeing, and hiking. Among my favorite things are Maine, guinness, and lobster.

The photographs on this website are my own, and the war posters are from my growing collection of gender and war images.
