I am a PhD Candidate in the Department of Sociology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. My research interests include sociology of gender, sociology of culture, qualitative methods, social theory (classical, contemporary and feminist), war and the military, discourse analysis, internet technology, and communications.

My dissertation, Mobilizing Military Motherhood: Negotiating Support, Activism and Politics in the U.S. War on Terrorism, uses theories of gender, discourse, and political mobilization to understand the intersections of the public and the private in the experiences of mothers of members of the U.S. Armed Forces.

I'm originally from the coast of Maine, and in my free time I enjoy reading classics and mysteries, running, watching movies, photography, canoeing, and hiking. Among my favorite things are Maine, guinness, and lobster.

The photographs on this website are my own, and the war posters are from my growing collection of gender and war images.
