Welcome to the somewhat-professional website of Peter Hart-Brinson. It is noticeably less professional than my CV! My colleague, Alex, has recently excoriated me on my outdated html formatting. Really, he laughed at me, not excoriated me. But "excoriated" sounds better. More evocative. Someday, I will actually learn how to use CSS and things like that. But until that time, I'm stuck in the 1990s, before the tech bubble burst--those were happier times. Yikes! I'm not even 30 and I'm already living in the past. While we're on the subject, here's my latest prediction: 14 months from now, by January 1, 2011, Twitter will be a distant memory.

At any rate, I am a doctoral student and lecturer in the Department of Sociology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Currently, I am teaching Classical Sociological Theory. You can find course materials and links for this class on my Theory page. Course content from previous classes that I have taught are also on this website.

My dissertation research is on the foundations of attitudes about same-sex marriage and processes of social generational change. However, I also have ongoing research projects on the collective identity of bicycle messengers and on "civic recreation," the non-profit fundraising events that use leisure activities for the purposes of raising money and awareness for a cause. The other pages on this site are devoted to various past and current scholarly interests. Except the Brinson Sociological Institute. That's just a bunch of B.S.

Thanks to the Social Science Computing Cooperative for providing web-hosting. And thank you for visiting!
