ACADEMIC CALENDAR

Fall semester: late July to late December

Spring semester: late February to mid July

PRE-SESSION:

Upon arrival in late July or late February, students attend a mandatory 10-day orientation in which intensive Spanish, safety, and general information about Argentina are covered.

REQUIRED: 

Mandatory Spanish Language & Argentine Culture course programmed by IFSA-Butler

OPTIONAL:

Program Courses: Argentine State & Society and Contemporary Argentine & Latin American Literature. All of these courses are taught in Spanish by an Argentine professor.

Research project: Independent research project (worth 6 credits) on public policy, focused on a topic of interest to the student.

COURSES AVAILABLE:

Some of the strongest departments available through the AUP are history, political science, economics, international studies, international business, philosophy, social science, and literature.

There is a full time Resident Director and Assistant Director.

MISCELLANEOUS

All students on the AUP are assigned a tutor to help with language and academic questions. Students and tutors are matched by discipline.

 

Volunteer opportunities are available in conjunction with our Argentine Universities Program in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Past service learning opportunities have included: working with The Buenos Aires Herald, Argentina’s premier English-language daily newspaper; the commercial section of the United States Embassy; and non-governmental organizations, such as Puna Huasi, an organization that deals with Aboriginal issues.

INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL

Optional group flight is offered to students. Independent travelers are not met at airport. 

VISA

A student visa is required.  The visa process for Argentina is lengthy (can take up to three months).  Students should begin the process immediately upon notification of acceptance.

INSURANCE

All participants in IAP programs are enrolled in health insurance through Cultural Insurance Services International (CISI) and the cost of the insurance coverage is included in program fees.
