This course presents current research in labor economics. Each week a paper is distributed and presented by the author, who may be a local student or faculty member, or a guest from another institution.
Students who register for the course are expected to participate on a regular basis. Papers will be distributed as a "packet", available (in installments) from the Graduate Office on payment of a fee. Many papers will be available on the web. Papers should be read in advance, and pertinent questions should be raised when the paper is presented. In addition, one or more written reports must be submitted. These reports are to be like referee reports for a journal, suitable for transmission to the author (and in fact they will be transmitted). Reports on student papers are encouraged.
The number of credit hours is variable, and the workload varies accordingly. For each hour of credit, one referee report is required. Students who present a paper of their own are excused from up to 3 reports.
Grades will normally be either satisfactory or unsatisfactory.
