Brief Bio

I was raised in Bellingham, Washington. After completing my Bachelors degree at Seattle Pacific University, I completed my Masters degree in Sociology at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. I then spent several years working for the non-profit agency, the Oregon Child Development Coalition, on issues affecting migrant and seasonal farm workers. I returned to graduate school in 2007 to pursue my doctorate in Sociology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

In addition to my research and teaching, I derive a great deal of pleasure from long walks, hiking, running, biking, reading, and vacationing at Odell Lake in Oregon's Deschutes and Willamette National Forests.
