The two files, CAN.xls
and USA.xls
contain the raw price data used in our paper "How Wide is the
Border?". The first is for Canadian cities, the other for the U.S.
cities. Each series is labeled with a letter(s) and a number. The
letter designates the city. Two letters are used for U.S. cities (e.g., CH
for Chicago), and only one letter for Canadian cities. The number
corresponds to one of the 14 goods, listed in the same order we have them in the
paper. "Good 0" is the city's overall CPI, also used in the
paper. Thus, LA2 is "Food away from home" for Los Angeles.
Our wage series are also on the file, and are designated with a w at the
end. The distance between cities is in the file
DistLables.xls.
