COMPUTER OPERATIONS REQUEST #556A To: WLS Project Staff From: Debby Carr Date: 1/24/95 Re: Correcting class of worker codes for family workers ***************************************************************** In order to assign an appropriate class of worker code to respondents who work either for (1) a family business; or (2) themselves, we must also ascertain (1) whether the respondent is paid for his/her work and (2) whether the business/employer is incorporated or not. In several cases, the respondent indicated that he/she was self-employed or a family worker, yet responded "don't know" or "refused" to either of the two followup questions regarding pay and incorporation status. For these 145 cases, full class of worker codes were assigned on a case-by-case basis. The six-digit Census industry-occupation code and a text description of each occupation were used to make the final class of worker code decision. The original version of this document listed (1) the occupation and industry codes; and text description of each of the recoded cases; (2) a complete listing of the changes made in the original data file. *****************************************************************
