The EIGHTH edition of the 1957-1977 WLS differs from previous releases
in the following ways:

Details of the Wave 1 - 9/99 updates:
- Mortality status of graduate was updated to indicate current status as far as we know.
This affected variables:
LIV92
DEATC92
DEATMN
DEATYR
DEATST
Current mortality of the selected sibling was added to Wave 1. The
new variables are in columns 2423-2435. The variables that were added
are:
XLIV Is sibling alive as far as we know
XDEATC cause of sibling's death if applicable
XDEATMN month of sibling's death
XDEATYR year of sibling's death
XDEATST state of sibling's death
When assigning 1990 Census basis codes to the 1975 non-respondents,
if any of the 1970 census occupation and industry codes were determined to
be incorrect they were updated in this release.
All associated scores were also updated. The updated
variables remain in the same column positions but have a U appended
to the previous variable name. Current variables were moved to the end
of the module. If the current variable name already had a "U" appended
from a previous update, then the new variable name ends in "U2".
1970 codes were updated for the 1975 non-respondents:
