SPSS Windows and Syntax

This workshop has sessions on multiple days. You should plan to attend all the sessions.

SPSS Windows Environment and Syntax Basics

This first lesson focuses on the user interface, handling SPSS files, and writing commands in the SPSS language (syntax).

We tour the three main SPSS windows: the data editor, the output viewer, and the syntax editor. In any of these windows we can issue commands by working with menus and dialog boxes for data manipulation, analysis, and graphing. These menus use the SPSS programming language. This in turn allows us to generate syntax (command files). Finally, we being writing syntax directly.

Some of this material is covered in our Knowledge Base article, SPSS for Classwork.
