All of these applications will run directly in your web browser with no need to install anything. Most require a fairly modern browser. Note that MindTerm connects to HAL, but once there you can connect to any other server by typing ssh servername (for example ssh kite).

We recommend using Thunderbird, Outlook Express, or Pine for email,and X-Win32 for connecting to Linux servers. All are available without charge to UW faculty, staff, and students. Web-based tools for these purposes are convenient and can be used anywhere, but will not give you the same features or performance as a dedicated program. (Note that the terminal server web interface will assist you in installing a dedicated client program.)
