Patricia was previously the Network Administrator for the University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire. Patricia will play an integral part in the planning and implementation of improvements to our network which have been made possible through the NFS Instrumentation Grant that was recently awarded the SSC Co-op. Patricia's office is Soc. Sci. 2416. Please drop by and welcome her. ------------------------ Computer Room Remodeling ------------------------ You may have noticed that the Computer Room (4411 Soc Sci) is under construction. The project was made possible by a university grant for remodeling projects under $30,000. The project includes: * Re-surfacing the computer room floor. * Installing an ID-card reader system to allow 24-hour access to the I/O room (4411A) and User Room (2470) for SSC users. * Carpeting the I/O room. We expect the remodeling projects to be completed by Physical Plant in the next few weeks. The ID-card system needs to be configured after it is installed; we expect this will take at least a month. -------------------------- Computer Print Out Wastage -------------------------- We are wasting soooo much paper, guys! Every week (and, yes, it's getting worse) the operator throws out tons of computer output that users are not picking up from the I/O room. Last fiscal year (July 1-June 30) we spent around $7,000 for paper! And, this year we've already spent $5,000! Please think twice before you print. ------------ SSC Exchange ------------ Want to sell your bike, old PC, or record collection?
