Reduced Hours for Consulting from July 21 -- August 15

Due to SSCC staff vacations, there will be no afternoon consulting
from July 21 -- August 15.  Consulting will be open from 9 a.m. to
noon.  Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.

Inexpensive Backup Service Now Available from DoIT
--------------------------------------------------
DoIT is now offering an inexpensive and easy to use backup service 
called Bucky Backup.  With Bucky Backup, for as little as $20/year, 
you can have your PC hard drive backed up weekly.  The service also 
provides off-site storage of your data.  Brochures are available in 
the Public Terminal Rooms, the I/O Room, and from the Consultant.

Previously Announced UNIX Software Availability Changes Now in Effect

UNIX software availability changes which were announced in the April
issue of SSCNEWS are now in effect.  Some software had to be removed 
from some UNIX computers for which we are not licensed.  Type "soft" 
followed by either the name of a software package or the name of a 
computer, to see a list of software availability by computer.

WordPerfect to be Removed from UNIX Computers August 1
------------------------------------------------------
WordPerfect will be removed from SunOS computers August 1.  This 
version of WordPerfect is out-of-date (version 5.1) and problematic 
to maintain. UNIX users can now access WordPerfect 7.0 from WinCenter.

Beta Version of WordPerfect 7.0 Available on VMS
------------------------------------------------
We now have a beta version of WordPerfect 7.0 available on all our VMS
computers.  If you are interested in using the pre-production version
of WordPerfect, you can invoke it by typing WP70 at the VMS prompt.
Beware that beta software often times is laden with bugs
