Solution

The household level variables in these data sets are household (the household id) and income. Thus to turn reshape2 into a data set purely of households, all you need to do is get rid of all the other variables:

use reshape2
keep household income

reshape3 has the additional complication that it has one observation per person rather than per household. Thus you also need to drop all but one observation per household:

use reshape3
keep household income
by household: keep if _n==1
