Common problems

Services

For most SSCC members the SSCC Help Desk is your primary point of contact with SSCC staff. If the consultant on duty cannot answer your question immediately, he or she will refer it to someone who can. Please do not send questions or requests for help to individual staff members: if they happen to be out of the office, your message may go unread for some time. Please see our software database and policies for information about what software and hardware the SSCC supports.

For SSCC members from the School of Education and WCER, your local technical staff are your primary source of computing support, including for problems using Winstat. Please contact the MERIT Help Desk or WCER Technical Services for assistance. The exception is questions about using statistical software, for which you are welcome to contact the SSCC Help Desk directly.

For problems with the printers in the computer labs, such as running out of paper or toner, please speak with the student lab monitor or contact the Help Desk if one is not available.

The SSCC has a voice mail box for reporting system and network failures during weekends and evening hours when staff and lab monitors are not in the building. Dial 376-4572 to report problems. After you leave a message, an on-call staff person will be paged automatically. This system is for reporting after-hours emergencies and failures only. It is not an extension of the SSCC's consulting service.
