Registration Tips
Does the Sociology Department maintain a waiting list
for closed classes?
No: The Sociology Department does not maintain waiting lists for closed
classes.
Do not telephone or e-mail the instructor. Instructors typically begin compiling waiting lists on the first day of class. Waiting lists begun now are usually invalid by the time the semester starts. Schedules change during the summer; we can count on a 10-15% drop in most of our classes as people make new schedules. We lower the enrollment limit of classes so that people who do drop do not create openings accessible to the general public. This procedure rewards those students who actually appear in class. One exception to this practice fall semester is SOC 441. There will be no waiting lists, and we will not lower the registration limit. You will have to keep trying to touch-tone to see if openings occur.
Keep in mind if there is no instructor listed for a particular course in the printed timetable or on the online timetable it is because the course has not yet been staffed. Please do not call the office asking who the professor is. As soon as we know, it will appear on the online timetable.
