The UW-Madison Graduate Program of the Departments of Sociology and Rural Sociology encourages underrepresented students to apply. The Graduate Program's Minority Recruitment and Retention Committee (MRRC) is a group of graduate students, staff and faculty members meeting regularly to work on issues related to recruitment, department climate, and financial and other resources available to underrepresented students. Prospective or current students should feel free to contact members of the Committee (listed below) with questions about the Committee or the graduate program.

- Mexican, Mexican American, Chicano/as, Puerto Rican, Cuban
- Cambodian, Vietnamese, Laotian, and Hmong
- Indigenous Peoples of Hawaii, Alaska or the U.S. Territories (Puerto Rico, American Samoa, Guam, Marianas Islands, U.S. Virgin Islands)
