Charlotte Frascona administers the graduate program in Sociology and Community & Environmental Sociology and serves as advisor/counselor/crisis interventionist for all the grad students. As liaison between the Departments and the Graduate School, she's responsible for understanding policies and procedures and explaining them clearly—even, and perhaps especially, when they seem not to make sense. Having earned a Ph.D. at UW-Madison (she studied modernist fiction and wrote a multidisciplinary dissertation), she's familiar with the pressures grad students face. Like many who come to Madison to study, Charlotte fell in love with the city and never left. After finishing her degree, she spent several years in a variety of teaching, research, and administrative positions at UW and raising a family. Thus she's well acquainted with the campus and surrounding community and enjoys being a resource for students. She also likes folk music, contemporary fiction, gardening, Boundary Waters canoe trips, and hikes with the family's golden retriever.
