The author is a Senior Research Associate, The Urban Institute. Some of the material in this paper is drawn from my dissertation, "The Relative Earnings of Women in the United States" (New York University, 1968). The multivariate analysis of earnings determinants reported here was carried out while I was working on the Social Indicators staff in the Department of Health, Education, and Welfare, under the direction of Mancur Olson.
