Statistics Recommendation for Majors

  1. Students with a strong math background and those interested in possibly attending graduate school in social science are strongly encouraged to take either the Stat 309-310 (recommended) or the Stat 311-312 yearlong sequence in probability and statistics, as a substitute for Econ 310. Students then go directly on to Econ 410.

  2. Most Econ students (including all students pursuing Option B who are not doing the option presented above) should do Econ 310 (or an approved substitute). Interested students and those in Option B then go to econ 410.

  3. Students with less math confidence that have already taken Econ 310 (or a substitute) but who want to learn regression can take Stat 333 (Applied Regression Analysis, requires cons inst).
