Internship Credit

Students can earn one credit for internships appropriate to the study of economics under the course number Econ 228. Students will be graded on a Credit/No Credit basis at the elementary credit level.
Students should enroll for Econ 228 in the same semester/session in which the internship is granted and to be completed. All enrollments require individual departmental approval.

Students should work a minimum of 100 hours per term. The internship must involve more than performing clerical duties (i.e., filing, stuffing envelopes, etc.).

Prerequisites:

Materials to Submit:

The following materials need to be submitted to the Economics Undergraduate Office:

  • Two letters from the internship supervisor.
  • One letter at the beginning of the term confirming the internship and indicating number of hours and the duties that will be required.
  • Another letter at the end of the semester (no later than the last day of scheduled classes) evaluating the intern's performance and outlining the duties actually performed.
  • A short written assignment by the interning student (2-3 pages)

This is due on the last day of the internship’s semester. This is to be a brief description of the job responsibilities, making connections between the internship and your educational experience in Economics. You could consider one or two concepts that you learned in your classes and relate them to your internship. The objective is to demonstrate a connection between your practical experience and your scholarly experience at UW.

Transfer Credit:

A student may not receive credit for an internship completed through another university.

Repeating:

A student may repeat Econ 228 once to receive a maximum of two (2) credits. However, a student may not enroll Econ 228 more that once per semester and may not enroll in Econ 228 more than twice.
