Our goal in the Faculty Services Office is to provide quality copying and administrative support for faculty, staff, and teaching assistants in a helpful and efficient manner. Below you will find general operating procedures. Your cooperation is appreciated. |
Copying Procedures |
| a. | The copy machine for instructional purposes ONLY is located in 7407 Social Science, next to the elevators. This machine is to be used ONLY when copying 75 or fewer single-sided pages or 50 or fewer double-sided pages. All other copy jobs are to be sent to the Copy Center. The door to 7407 Social Science is unlocked at about 7:00 a.m. weekdays and locked at about 4:00 p.m. You may go into this room and copy your class materials at anytime throughout the day, even if 7470 Social Science is locked. Due to the high volume of people using the hallway to the elevators, please keep the door to 7407 Social Science closed. | |
| b. | IF YOU HAVE COPY JOBS TO SEND TO THE COPY CENTER, PLEASE SUBMIT THEM TO ALBERT IN 7470. If Albert is not in 7470, check his other office (7446) or see Alisenne in 7414 or Mary Beth in 7448. The original documents to be copied must be submitted 4 days before they are needed for the class. Attach a pink Copying Request Form to the original indicating the class the copies are for, the date and time needed, number of copies and any special instructions. Except for exams, the original to be copied, with an attached pink form, can be left in the black tray on top of the desk in 7470 Social Science. Finished copy jobs can be picked up in 7470 Social Science. If you have any questions about the guidelines or how to submit originals for copying, do not hesitate to ask a staff member. | |
| c. | Duplication of exams and other multiple page documents will be done by either office staff or the Social Sciences Copy Center, depending on the amount to be copied and the date due. Teaching assistants will be asked to complete the collating and stapling of multiple pages, if not enough lead time is given. Large class exams or handouts, (i.e. Econ 101 or 102) will be done by the Social Science Copy Center and must be brought in at least 4 full days prior to the date needed. Express copying jobs are budgetarily forbidden, for any reason. There may be students working in 7470 Social Science, so please be aware that students may not touch exams. Please hand your exam to a staff member only (i.e., Albert, Alisenne or Mary Beth). | |
| d. | All duplicating requests will be done back-to-back, unless otherwise requested. | |
| e. | All completed copy jobs, except exams, are kept in the wooden cabinet by the door. They are divided by course number. Exams are kept in a separate, locked cabinet. Please see a staff member (not a student worker) when you pick up the exam. | |
| f. | Scanning service of documents into PDF files is provided in 7470 Social Science. The scanning is intended to cut down on the amount of copying done by instructors and TAs. Pages to be scanned are left in 7470 Social Science with any necessary instructions including an email address that the PDF file(s) should be mailed to when scanning is completed. The material will be scanned and returned as a PDF file. This alternative is encouraged over copying whenever possible so that costs can be kept down. | |
FAX Machine
| The FAX machine is used for instructional purposes only. The FAX form must be completed as a cover sheet. Complete the form and give it to a staff member to send. This machine may not receive personal faxes of any sort, i.e., job announcements, conferences related to personal research, etc. | ||
Supplies |
Head teaching assistants are responsible for picking up supplies from the Undergraduate Office (7238) at the beginning of the semester for each of their TAs. Supply packages will be put together by office staff for each TA and include the following:
| Other materials in the Economics Supply Room are for professors and staff use only. If you have a request for additional supplies for your course, please see Albert in 7470 or 7446 Social Science. | ||
A-V Equipment |
| Overhead projectors and microphones are available in room 7447 Social Science. There is a sign-out sheet to be filled out. Please see Albert in 7470 or 7446 Social Science for access to this equipment. You are responsible for returning this equipment to 7447 Social Science. Do not leave equipment in the classroom. If you find the equipment isn't working or is damaged, please report this. Microphone batteries are available in 7470 Social Science. | ||
Overhead Transparencies |
| Overhead transparencies may be made on the copier in 7407 Social Science for instructional purposes only, i.e., as a TA who teaches a class of students. Only a specific type of transparency is to be used in the copy machine in 7407 Social Science. Obtain this specific transparency from a staff member in 7470 Social Science. If the transparencies are for your own research presentations or a workshop seminar, please go to Kinkos, Bob's, or Social Science Copy Center to make copies. | ||
Blue Books and Scantron Sheets |
Blue books are available in 7470 SS. Blue book sizes are determined by the number of pages they contain; either 8, 16 or 24 pages. |
| Scantron sheets are also available in 7470 SS. They are sealed in packages of 500 sheets. At the end of the semester or whenever it is convenient, please return all unused blue books or scantron sheets to 7470 SS. | ||
TA Accounts |
| There is a NEW system for TA printing accounts starting this fall. Previously, each TA had an account with the SSCC. This year, we will be adding pages to your printing accounts in the 6th floor printing room (6409). TAs will be notified
of the number of copies allotted around
the second week of the fall and spring semesters by an email from
the graduate advisor.
The purpose of this account (which is for instructional purposes only)
is to allow TAs to make one copy each of drafts, problem sets,
discussion papers, etc., for course purposes. Follow instructions above
(Copying Procedures) for multiple copies of materials
for class distribution. |
