Using PDF Files

Some SSC working papers are available on the World Wide Web in graphical form. They have been converted to Adobe Acrobat's portable document format (PDF). You will need to install and configure the Adobe Acrobat Reader to view them.

The easiest way to install Adobe Acrobat is to link to the Adobe Home Page and follow the installation instructions that they provide. The program is available for Macintosh, Windows, DOS, and Sun UNIX platforms. The Acrobat Reader is also available via anonymous FTP at ftp.adobe.com. The Acrobat reader is located in the/pub/adobe/Applications/Acrobat directory.

Tips for viewing PDF Files

To bring to bring up the PDF Files automatically you must first configure your web browser. Connect to the Adobe Home Page and follow the instructions for installing Adobe Acrobat for a variety of web browsers including NCSA Mosaic and Netscape.

When viewing PDF Files, you can zoom in and out on the page by using the magnification glass tools. The magnification tool with a plus (+) sign lets you zoom in, while the tool with a minus (-) sign lets you zoom out. Use the hand tool to move the document on-screen when it doesn't fit within the window. Drag the hand tool in the direction you want to move the page. PDF Files can be printed on a local PostScript or non-PostScript printer. Select Print from the File menu.
