Data Resources at CDE Information Services

  • Social Science Data Extractors: This page describes a selection of web sites that allow the user to quickly extract social science data. Either raw data, summary data, or both can be extracted. Various downloading options (data format, type of Internet access protocol, supporting documentation, etc.) are supported by various systems. Extraction systems can be interactive web sites, software systems that must be downloaded to the PC and installed there, or both. In some cases, interactive graphing and mapping are available as well. Some sites allow downloading of full data sets that underlay the extraction system.

  • Social Science Data Archives: This page describes a selection social science data archives. Each one carries a variety of social science data sets. Archives have various policies with regard to cost of data, availability of data and ancillary information, and restrictions (if any) on the use of data.

  • Public Health Data Resources: This page describes a selection of public health related data resources. Included are sources of raw data as well as extractable data from websites or downloadable programs.

  • Data Resources in Aging: This page is designed to aid researchers in aging find cross-sectional studies, time series, contextual data, and other data relevant to their research. About 55 studies and datasets have been highlighted in order to provide easy access to some of the most well known and useful studies of the sociological, economic, and medical aspects of aging. This is a small selection of relevant studies, but the archives, government agencies and NGOs listed below will help serve as a gateway to hundreds more.

  • CDE Public FTP: CDE's public FTP site provides access to a variety of unique data files in our holding's. Data files are available in Unix compressed ASCII and SAS transport formats.

  • CDE Program Files: CDE data files that have SAS, SPSS, or Stata program statements
