Larry Bumpass is Professor Emeritus of Sociology, and Co-Director of the National Survey of Families and Households. His research focuses on the social demography of the family, including cohabitation, marriage, the stability of unions, contraception and fertility (especially unmarried childbearing), and the implications of these processes for children's living arrangements and subsequent life-course development. This research is centered on family life in the U.S., but it includes international comparisons including Japan and Korea as well as European countries.
