    • Voice of the Shuttle An educational links page on minority/ethnic studies. Lots of links on lots of topics.
    • Saxakali is a "people of color" portal with international orientations. Has link sites on reparations, education, health, immigration, land rights, workers rights, women, prisons.
    • Race, Racism and the Law considers race, racism and racial distinctions in the law; It examines the role of the law in promoting and/or alleviating racism. The site includes statutes, cases, excerpts of law review articles, annotated bibliographies and a wide variety of other documents related to race and racism.  Key topics include criminal justice, Hawaii, Japanese internment, Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, Africans in America, immigration, English, definitions of race & racism, historical cases of slavery, Jim Crow, case for reparations to blacks (in "justice").  More.
    • Is Race Real? The Social Science Research Council has posted about a dozen good essays discussing and debating the biological and social meanings of race.
    • Understanding Race. A project of the American Anthropological Association with accessible interactive materials.
    • Leadership Conference on Civil Rights  A coalition organization.  Their "coalition" page provides links to a large number of religious, ethnic, civil rights  and labor organizations.
    • Voice of the Shuttle Minority Studies Page  Lots of links to groups and issues.
    • PBS Site for "Race: The Power of an Illusion" This site has interactive material, including a very difficult quiz asking you to categorize faces by race.
    • Ethnic Newswatch.  Great full-text data base from the ethnic press.  You need to be at the Univ. of Wisconsin (including WiscWorld) for access.
    • Minorities at Risk Project Follows minorities around the world.
    • Memorial Library Handouts on Research in Ethnic Studies
    • DiversityInc.com is a site targeted to business "diversity" initiatives. "Hot topics" section includes affirmative action, reparations, etc. You are asked to register for free at the site, but promised that the registration information will nto be sold to third parties.
    • Mid-Atlantic Equity Consortium Site emphasizes educational equity by race & gender. Includes a lot of statistics as well as reports and other kinds of resources.
    • Americans.net A gateway site which comes up with American flags and war information, but if you page down, lists a large number of affiliated sites, including sites dedicated to the major ethnic groups in the US, along with sites dedicated to various topics in US history and culture.
    • World Languages data base at UCLA Profiles of world languages, including maps, dialects, etc.
    • White Privilege study resources. List maintained at Greenfield Community College which includes links to anti-racist organizations and a few significant articles.
    • Euroamerican.Org is a multiracial anti-racist site focusing on European American - White culture. "Beyond guilt." Site is still in development, includes lots of articles, letters, quotations and suggested activities.
    • "Seeing Segregation OnLine" instructions on how to use the Census Bureau's American Factfinder to draw maps of segregation.

    African American / Black

    • Urban League of Greater Madison
    • Black Native American Association.  For persons of mixed African and Native American ancestry.  Long list of links to with an emphasis on genealogical sites, as well as sites specifically about Black Indians.
    • Progressive National Baptist Convention.  A predominantly black denomination. Broke away from the National Baptist Convention over more aggressive support for civil rights.
    • Congress of National Black Churches a coalition of 8 historically black denominations.
    • Nation of Islam In Milwaukee
    • NAACP  (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People) was founded in 1919. Web site is more focused on the structure of the organization & its programs than on providing information about issues. Has links to many other organizations for various ethnic groups. Also links to NAACP branches, some of which have information on specific issues.
    • Swagga.com The Afrocentric Experience is a portal site with a great deal of information on African, Afro-Caribbean and African American history, politics, issues, personalities, literature, music, culture.
    • Black Voices a black gateway site.  Includes news and discussion sections. 
    • The MarcusGarveyBBS is a discussion/forum site philosophically committed to Garvey's ideals.
    • UNIA-ACL (United Negro Improvement Association - African Communities League) web site, claims to be the continuity of the UNIA founded by Garvey. Site includes statement of principles, etc. The current president is Marcus Garvey's son.
    • Ethiopia Africa Black International Congress This is a Rastafarian religious web site which seems oriented to its own members, has little outreach but a great deal of imagery and text.
    • Jim Crow PBS documentary currently broadcasting has web site with a large abount of information
    • John Browns Holy War a PBS video and informational web siate
    • University of Michigan Political Science resources has a good page of African American studies resources
    • Univ. of Louisville "civil rights" documents Includes affirmative action, racial profiling, other topics.
    • http://www.aawc.com/aawc0.html African American gateway site. MANY AfAm history links, links to AfAm organizations, etc.. "Topics of Concern" include KKK site on AOL and Ebonics (Black/English) -- both with many discussion articles.
    • The Black Press A PBS film. The web page contains a great deal of information about the history and importance of the black press in the US. California Newsreel the producer of this and many other educational videos about the African American experience.
    • www.seattle-times.com/mlk a site devoted to Martin Luther King, Jr. Speeches, audio & video clips, etc.
    • UW Afro-American Studies Program
    • TransAfrica Forum public policy for the African diaspora (group headed by Randall Robinson)
    • Nation of Islam (Black Muslim) official site
    • Articles about the differences between Nation of Islam and Orthodox Muslims, including Warith Deen Mohammed, the son of Elijah Mohammed who led the Nation of Islam when Malcolm X was preaching. This page links to a "differences" page and a page about "what is Islam" by WDM.
    • Popular black magazines (these are the magazine sites, which do not give full text of articles but do include some discussions, etc.): Ebony, Jet , Essence (for black women)
    • Africana.com an African-American portal with articles and features on a wide variety of topics. Includes articles on many historical topics.
    • Blackpeopleloveus.com A satirical site that has a point.
    • AfricanAmericans.com an extensive site with a great deal of general and historical information.
    • Jim Crow Museum of Racist Memorabilia. This site, maintained by Ferris State University in Michigan, contains hundreds of images of the different stereotypes of Black people and of images of segregation along with several dozen essays on the history of racism and discrimination in the US, including essays on the origins of "Jim Crow."
    • BrotherMalcolm.Net a site devoted to Malcolm X.
    • Tulsa Riot of 1921 Whites in Tulsa attacked and burned the entire Black area of Tulsa to the ground. This site documents the riot in detail, including the background and then describing exactly what happened; it includes a large number of photographs of the White mobs gathering and the buildings burning. The organization's main site is devoted to getting reparations for the survivors; it includes interviews with survivors, copies of the official report on the incident, and more.

    • Kwanzaa.
      • The "official" Kwanzaa site maintained by Maulana Karenga, the man who invented of Kwanzaa in 1966 as an African American cultural celebration. The site includes a lot of information including FAQs, detailed explanations of origins and meanings, etc.
      • TIKE : a commercial site that has a good short summary of the history & manner of celebration of Kwanzaa

    • Azteca.net is an internet service provider, web design firm.  Has extensive list of links to Spanish-language newspapers. 
    • http://www.latino.com/ A Latino portal site. Mostly commercial, art, etc., but also news and commentary.
    • http://www.webdemexico.com.mx/ A Mexican site about Mexico. In Spanish.

    • Community Action on Latin America A local organization concerned with justice in Latin America. Links page is organized around countries.
    • Mexico Connect is a broad site covering many dimensions of Mexico. Principally oriented toward encouraging tourism, but includes significant overviews of history, news, discussion of issues, cultural links. In English.
    • HispanoMundo an extensive site with lots of information and links to other sites. Oriented toward general information.
    • Los Angeles. Philip J. Ethington History Department, University of Southern California A fascinating visual site showing population growth, images of the city and much more..
    • "Zoot Suit Riots." A PBS site with detailed accounts of the riots, copies of newspaper coverage, images of the clothing, music, social life, politics of the time. In Los Angeles in 1943: for 10 days Anglo sailors hunted and beat Mexican Americans wearing "zoot suits" (a style of the time); brawling ensued as Mexican Americans fought back.
    • National Council of La Raza is the largest national Hispanic civil rights and advocacy organization in the United States, founded in 1968. To achieve its mission, NCLR conducts applied research, policy analysis, and advocacy, providing a Latino perspective in five key areas – assets/investments, civil rights/immigration, education, employment and economic status, and health. NCLR serves all Hispanic subgroups in all regions of the country and has operations in Atlanta, Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, Phoenix, Sacramento, San Antonio, and San Juan, Puerto Rico.

    • National Council of Churches list of member denominations provides links for those that have them.
    • UW Prof. Cohen's web page has scholarly links on religion in the US
    • Divining America is an academic site devoted to providing information on religion in America for use by teachers. Includes both historical and current sections; covers both Christianity and other religions. Includes several sections on Black churches, sections on Jewish and Muslim experiences, and on Mormons, Catholics, and Protestants.
    • Progressive National Baptist Convention.  A predominantly black denomination. Broke away from the National Baptist Convention over more aggressive support for civil rights.
    • Congress of National Black Churches a coalition of 8 historically black denominations.
    • The Interfaith Alliance is a non-partisan, faith-based organization with supporters from over 50 faith traditions, including Muslims, Catholics, Protestants and Jews, dedicated to promoting the positive role of religion as a healing and constructive force in politics and in public life. 
    • religioustolerance.org  a web site devoted to describing religions and covering religious points of view, including both sides of controversial issues.  Descriptions of religious groups and issues, with many links to other sources, as well as bibliographic references.
    • Beliefnet a multi-faith (e.g. Christian, Buddhist, Hindu, Jewish, Muslim, Earth-based, etc.) commercial site emphasizing personal practice & belief, with some links to informational sources & controversial discussions.
    • United American Muslim Association Turkish ethnicity.
    • United Muslim Americans Association A political organization based in Chicago.
    • Muslim Student Association of USC A complex page with many resources.
    • Muslim American Society is an outgrowth of various Muslim associations. Includes links to other Muslim organizations. It publishes the American Muslim magazine.
    • Islamic Assembly of North America
    • The Islam Page is oriented to explaining Islam to non-Muslim potential converts. Includes translations of the Koran/Quran in many languages. Religious focus, much information.
    • Ministry of W. Deen Mohammed
    • Muttaqun on line is a multi-ethnic Muslim site which emphasizes religion and personal relations.
    • Islam Guide has a basic Q&A format about beliefs
    • Islamicity is general site with news, culture, etc. for Muslims in US; includes many opinion articles with open discusison.
    • Orthodox Christian Information Center is an outreach site explaining and promoting Orthodox Christianity. Lots of articles and links.
    • Adherents.com is a compilation of statistics about membership in US religious organizations.
    • Judaism 101 is an award-winning site written from an Orthodox point of view (but with short summaries of other viewpoings) that answers common questions about Judaism, as well as more advanced topics.

    Economic Issues

    • Center for Social Inclusion focuses on "structural racism," the factors that lead people of color to do worse economically. It publishes fact sheets and reports, for example showing that the 2008-9 economic recession is hurting people of color more than Whites. New York based.

    • National Coalition of Blacks for Reparations in America  
    • Reparations Links on Saxakali.com a "people of color" portal. 
    • African Reparations Movement (UK) calls for reparations to Africa and the African disaspora; FAQs about reparations concepts, details on specific countries, issues.
    • Caucasions United for Reparations and Emancipation (CURE)  Includes discussions of prisons, discussion of United Nations Human Rights policies which call for reparations.
    • Reparations information at swagga.com includes an essay on the legal basis for reparations and text of the 1999 bill in Congress calling for study of reparations. 
    • Africare, a British site on African reparations. 
    • African Reparations Movement a UK site.(No longer being maintained after the death of the founder.) International perspective.
    • "The Self Determination Committee"  Urging AfAms to refuse to pay taxes and file for reparations for slavery; soliciting payment to tell AfAms how to "expatriate" themselves and be freed from the obligations of citizenship (including taxes).  
    • Saxakali is a "people of color" portal with international orientations. Has link sites on reparations, education, health, immigration, land rights, workers rights, women, prisons.
    • Randall Robinson's page. Selling his book, The Debt, but also legal arguments and information about the movement
    • Anti-reparations article on "Stand to Reason" page devoted to creating "confident, courageous, yet winsome and attractive ambassadors for Christ capable of restoring credibility to the Christian world view." Interestingly, this site has quite a few articles suggesting that good Christians are against black political action, although most of the site's emphasis is on the more usual moral and social issues.
    • Washington Post columnist quotes a wide variety of short statements for and against reparations.
    • Human Rights Watch page on race and racism, which includes reparations among other issues.
    • Bibliography on reparations compiled by a librarian at Purdue University.

    • Southern Poverty Law Center is a nonprofit organization that combats hate, intolerance and discrimination through education and litigation.  Its programs include the Intelligence Project (hate groups), Teaching Tolerance, and Tolerance.org.
    • Tolerance.org A project of the Southern Poverty Law Center, a web site on practicing& teaching tolerance. current links on terrorism & targeting of Arabs.
    • Anti-Defamation League.  Jewish advocacy.  Emphasis on civil rights, hate groups, Israel, Farrakhan and Nation of Islam, religious freedom.

    • Heartland Institute  Conservative think tank with lots of on-line articles giving conservative opinions about a wide variety of issues.   
    • American Enterprise Institute Conservative think tank with lots of on-line articles giving conservative opinions about a wide variety of issues. 
    • speakout.com a commercial site which centralizes news stories and links for "activists" of all stripes; hot links to send email on a wide variety of topics, hot "surveys" on a variety of topics.  Includes links to activist organizations.  There is a "race relations" section which is featuring racial profiling, as well as "war on drugs" and many others.  Seems to be a fairly superficial focus on hot topics.  May provide the popular "buzz" on issues.
    • Befearless/Grassroots a commercial site with links to grassroots organizations, including civil rights organizations
    • The Mission of IGC is to advance the work of progressive organizations and individuals for peace, justice, economic opportunity, human rights, democracy and environmental sustainability through strategic use of online technologies.  Branches to PeaceNet, EcoNet, WomensNet, AntiRacismnNet.  News, activist links; ability to sign up for mailing lists.  A "gateway" site that lets you search for documents on member sites by topic.  Includes civil rights, immigration, etc.

    • Policy.com  maintained by VoxCap properties as an objective policy forum, organizing articles by topic.  Detailed list of policy-oriented organizations appearing to span the political spectrum.  Topical pages combine articles with links to relevant organizations.  A very complex and detailed site.  Looks like a good research resource.
    • about.com select news/issues gets you to a list that covers a wide variety of relevant issues.
    • Statistical Resources Web Page This page created at the University of Michigan links you to an extraordinarily wide range of statistical data bases.
    • Scout Report Signpost  An index of good quality web sites, compiled by librarians.
    • Harper's Weekly is developing a complex web site of 19th century materials based on its magazine from that time. Contemporaneous coverage of racial and election issues from the time. Parts are available free. They are attempting to sell access to other parts to educational institutions. Includes political cartoons from the time as well as anti-slavery articles, and opinions at the time about reconstruction, etc.
    • historychannel a commercial site mostly advertising their own shows, but detailed "exhibits" contain links to encyclopedia entries and relevant web sites. A search on keywords will bring up short summaries.
    • politics.com a popular site, includes links to organizations for elections and issues
    • stateline.org is devoted to state political news
    • United Nations site
    • http://www.officer.com/ is a directory of law enforcement-related sites, including criminal justice.
    • Federation of American Scientists, links on intelligence (espionage), weapons policy & arms control.
    • Federal statistical sites gateway with indices by topic, agency, etc.

    • Teacher Oz A collection of links to public domain sources on history. Maps etc.
    • OpenCRS.com is a web site devoted to creating public access to Congressional Research Reports which are public documents that are not generally distributed to the public. These are excellent background briefing sheets on issues relevant to proposed Congressional legislations. The search engine on the site is not good; if you are looking for documents on a specific topic, it will work better to use a search engine such as google with boolean search capacities and restrict the domain to opencrs.com.
