Macro Field Requirements: 2006-2007
In order to qualify for the "macro" field a student must
take at least two courses in the field and complete a research paper approved
by the faculty.
a) Courses: The list of appropriate macro courses
varies from year to year. For the 2006-2007 academic year the courses that can
fulfill the macro requirement are:
-
Econ 879 (Manuelli)
-
Econ 899 (Seshadri)
-
Econ 836 (Durlauf)
-
All students must attend (taking at least one credit) the Macro Workshop in both semesters.
-
A student may petition to the Macro Field Coordinator (Rody
Manuelli for the 2006-2007 academic year) to substitute one of the courses.
b) Field Paper: A student must submit a first draft of the
field paper by
June 16th, 2007. This paper should be sole authored, but can be an extension
of a paper prepared for a class. The student must submit two copies to
the Macro Field Coordinator. Within three weeks, the student will receive
feedback from the macro faculty in the form of an initial evaluation of
the paper. If the initial draft is approved by the macro group, the student
completes the field paper part of the macro field requirements. If the
initial draft is not acceptable but shows potential, a faculty member will
take major responsibility for assisting the student in the revision of
the paper. At this time, the student and the faculty member will agree on
a schedule for submitting drafts. In all cases a final satisfactory version
of the paper must be completed by Thanksgiving Day, 2007. If the initial
draft is not satisfactory, the student will not pass this part of the field
requirement.
